Beginners’ Courses

Our beginners’ courses run up to three times a year and consist of six weekly sessions.

The first four sessions are 2hrs of formal coaching in small groups where you will learn:

  • Recognising and assembling your bow
  • Principle elements of correct archery technique
  • Are you left or right eye dominant?
  • Recognising the shooting line and waiting area
  • Rules on the field
  • Safety when shooting, approaching the target and at the target
  • Rules for scoring and competition

Part 2 of the course is two further 2½ hour shooting sessions when beginners join in the general shooting with the other club members with less intense coaching provided.
The course fee of £80 includes provision of all essential equipment for our beginners (recurve bows, arrows, tabs, armguards, and importantly cakes).

Our next beginners course is scheduled to start in the Autumn. Contact the club by email to book your place.

The registration form for our beginners course and example certificate can be found by following the links.

Those who join the club after successfully completing the beginners’ course will still have the opportunity to use the club equipment for a small weekly charge until they are ready to purchase their own bow. However this loan of equipment cannot be guaranteed after the next beginners’ course commences when the new beginners take prority.

Feedback from our previous beginners’ courses

Just wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of the coaches and everyone else at Cuckfield Archers for making my son so welcome and teaching him really well, he really enjoyed the course.

Thanks for a great introduction to archery. The best coaching I've enjoyed in any field for many years, patient, observant and very encouraging.
